Self-driving cars

Google remains the industry leader. The company`s system collects information using Google Street View service, camera, LIDAR sensor mounted on the roof, radar in the front part of a car and sensor connected to one of the rear wheels.

Autopilot 1

Tesla vehicles with semi-automatic autopilot have a bunch of cameras, sensors and computer modules, which analyze the situation and automatically control the car.

Autopilot 3

Self-driving system in Mercedes-Benz F015 Luxury in Motion is provided by a number of stereo cameras and sensors.

Ford presented a concept-car that can park itself.

Autoplot 2

Volvo presented a prototype of IntelliSafe Auto Pilot interface for their future cars with autonomous control function. Multiply sensors, GPS and other technologies practically exclude the possibility to get into an accident.

Toyota also announced the development of self-driving cars.

Audi has progressed its driver assistance technology so far that you don’t even need to be behind the wheel. What better way to terrify other road users than an unmanned car that can find and collect you with a single command from your smartphone?

Body panels that accumulate energy

Exxon Mobil prognoses that most of the companies by 2040 year will produce only hybrid cars.

But batteries are usually very large and heavy – even if we consider the current development of lithium-ion batteries! Therefore, engineers are working on the creation of the body panels of the vehicle that will accumulate an energy and keep a charge longer than a battery. Panels are made from polymer carbon fiber and resin, they are solid, but flexible. These panels will also allow saving some space in a car and its total weight will be reduced by 15%.

The user will be able to recharge energy in the usual way – through the plug or using energy recovery system.

Volvo was the only participant-automaker out of 9, which took part in the contest of development of this concept under the auspices of London Imperial College. It is unknown yet when the new technology will become serial.

Airless tires

Japanese company Bridgestone presented a revolutionary concept of tires. The airless tires hold mass of the car due to the system of internal plate spokes bent under certain angles.

The spokes are made of thermoplastic resin that has high durability and wear resistance. And although airless tires is not a news, Bridgestone is the first company that adapted them for use as a substitute for regular tires.

Using such tires, you no longer need a tire-pump and air pressure control, and you shouldn`t be afraid of the possibility of unforeseen external damage occurrence.

Bridgestone Introduces Air-Free Concept Tyres

A feature of these tyres is, they have spokes with a special curve arranged in an interlacing fashion. http://www.national.co.uk/press-releases/123/bridgestone-announces-development-of-non-pneumatic–airless–concept-tyre/ http://www.national.co.uk/branch-513-Blackburn.aspx 67 King Street Blackburn BB2 2DH This enables them to flex effectively without twisting, and behave just like ordinary tyres, without producing a horizontal force.

Head-up displays and augmented reality

HUD, the projection of images on glass that appeared in the aircraft sphere in 50-s last century, created for the release of the airmen from the information overload, today has found application in the automotive industry.

HUD 1

Glass display allows the driver to keep eyes on the road and do not distract on the testimony of the dashboard. At the moment, about 2% of cars are already equipped with such a technology.

HUD 2

HUD 3

It is expected that by the year 2020 serial cars will be equipped with full-color head-up high-resolution systems that allow you to control the movement characteristics and all current status indicators of car systems!

HUD 4

Harman Interactive and BMW presented a similar system. Below is the BMW commercial, where you can see a device similar to Google Glasses used to study the engine, define what details need to be changed, and then gives systematic instruction of how to fix it.

Gesture control

Hyundai presented a new concept car HCD-14 with “brains”. Head-up display, dashboard and steering wheel cameras relentlessly follow the gaze of a driver. Just like in a fairy tale: if you look at the climate control and make a certain gesture, the temperature will fall or rise, if you raise your eyes on smartphone activation, you can paginate browser pages in the air with your index finger.

I love to always be in the epicenter of the events, and then tell the world about it in the most diverse forms.I believe that many rules are created in order to break them in an attempt to create something new. Many of us sometimes need to stop for a moment, perhaps lose something in order to rethink our existence and understand in which direction we need to move.In addition to blogging, I am fond of music composing, traveling, self-studying and meditation. I sincerely believe that if you go your own way and listen to your inner voice, you will definitely come where you were going!
