The term “body art” describes the kind of modern art, in which the human body itself becomes a kind of canvas for creativity. Even in ancient times, it was used as a way to indicate person’s status, religious beliefs, to receive protection from evil spirits, and diseases. Today it is one of the ways to express and emphasize the individuality.
Appearing for the first time in the Stone Age, body painting became a hallmark of the postmodern art of the late XX century. Now body art is not only a form of self-expression, but often is practiced in the field of advertising of goods and services. In popular culture, the female body painting is much more popular than the male’s one since it is believed that the body painting on a woman’s body is easier to perform and looks more attractive. In real life, football fans are a good example of body art.
Dain Yoon, the Korean artist, from Seul, uses her painter talent to create amazing optical illusions and shares them in Instagram.
Ms Yoon said she has started painting on people because of their ‘multidimensional characteristics’ regardless of the ‘first impressions.’
“This is why I started drawing on the several parts of my body such as my hand and face. It looks like one face at first but it is overlapped in real. The interesting point of my artwork is that people can find something new and tricky when they look into my artwork over and over. So this is the reason why I called my art an illusion art.”
