1. Early years and education

Let’s start our Fela Durotoy biography at the very beginning. The future Nigerian presidential candidate Oluwafeolami Durotoye was born on May 12th, 1971 in Ibadan to a loving family of Sisi Addy and Bros Toks. Fela wasn’t an only child – he had a brother and a sister when growing up.

From a young age Fela’s family was invested in the boy’s education and put great effort into giving him a decent start in life: he attended the most prestigious schools in his area and had lots of extracurricular activities like theatre, music band, and Boy Scouts.

Fela’s education didn’t stop there, as he obtained not one, but three degrees at the Obafemi Awolowo University. He was studied business administration, computer science, and philosophy. All of that knowledge led him to where he is today.

2. Career

Fela Durotoye’s first job was at Ventures & Trusts, but after obtaining the MBA he quickly made a switch to Phillips Consulting, where he was soon promoted to the head of customer care department. After that, Fela has successfully managed customer care in several other companies.

Later Fela Durotoye founded the social organization called Visible Impact and he has occupied the CEO position ever since. Visible Impact deals with all kinds of social and environmental issues, aiming at creating Nigerian leaders and responsible citizens.

Fela’s organization is known for completing dozens of successful projects, both in cooperation with the government and on its own. The projects include the Future Leader Program, True Nigerian Project, Eden, Super Speaker, and others, with the most famous one being the Gemstone 2025 project.

3. Gemstone 2025

In 2012 Fela Durotoye unveiled a completely new project that he and his team named the Gemstone 2025. According to their objective, by 2025 Nigeria should become the best place in the world to live, and here is how Fela plans to achieve it.

The Gemstone Nation Builders Foundation aims to turn people from all levels of the society into new Nigerian leaders by inspiring and empowering them while giving them the tools to power the transformation of Nigeria. Fela has already started the process by launching a mentorship program and giving motivational speeches to thousands of listeners.

4. Family

Despite his many business and social commitments, Fela Durotoye is a devoted family man. Since 2001 he has been married to Tara Fela-Durotoye, a flourishing makeup artist, lawyer, and business mogul. The couple has three sons, Mobolurin, Demilade, and Morolaoluwa.
