September,18 – many countries started their sellings of new iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus. We managed to see the new iPhone 6 which is appealed to become the leading smartphone in the updated model line.
The first thing that strikes your eyes is that a design of the new iPhone is very similar to the iPod Touch design: the same chamfered edges, the same obtrusive camera. The smartphone is pretty thin, it is convenient to hold in your hand. The unlock button was shifted from the left edge to the side one. In such place this button is less common but you can reach it with your finger more easily. The display size is more than 4,5 inches.
What we did not really like were plastic pieces on the back panel. They are needed for a confident wireless modules working process. These pieces are made roughly, and if compared to the HTC One body (which the new iPhone is always compared with), we can see that all these details could be done in a more elegant way.
iPhone 6 is supplied with a 4,7-inch display. I think, this is the ideal display size for a mobile device. 5-inch display is too big for such smartphone. Unfortunately, Apple did not give this display a valuable Full HD resolution which is already a common thing for many gadgets with the similar displays that will cost as much as the new iPhone does.
The display has the capacity of 1334×750 pixels and 326 PPI density. Apple had the opportunity to reach the higher level, for instance, remember the last-year HTC One M7 with the 4,7-inch display, 1080×1920 capacity and PPI 469. However, the company was not intended to perfect their device.
Battery is a very important thing. The company does not tell the battery capacity, but says that iPhone 6 will be able to process in a talk-time regime (3G) 14 hours, in a stand-by mode – to 250 hours, as well as to provide Internet surfing (3G) to 10 hours, to 10 hours in LTE, nearly 11 hours with Wi-Fi, 11 hours of video play and 50 hours of music play. From the one side, not the most prominent display can be useful: the less display is, the less resolution your screen has and the less energy is needed for its work. From the other side, iPhone 5S with a 4-inch display and iOS 8 was hardly ever working up to 6 hours without charging.
The most active energy consumers are the geolocation service and AppStore shop that together in a stand-by regime are able to take nearly a half of a battery during 6 hours. Do we have any arguments to believe that the iPhone 6 will not have such problems?
Among the technical innovations there are: a 64-bit A8 CPU and an additional M8 CPU which is responsible for with sensor processing. One more useful innovation is a barometer that allows different fitness-applications to fix the movements not only horizontally, but also vertically. This function will be also helpful for such programs as Find my iPhone, now the location of your device can be defined with a greater precision.
We were told about the new long-expected NFC-module, but it is pared-down and works only with the Apple Pay. Besides, it is available not in many countries.
One more innovation is the ability to perform the sounds via the Lightning parting which allows getting the new quality of decoded sound. However, for applying this function you need special headphones, but the only model which is sold at the market is Philips Fidelio M2L headphones which cost nearly $300.
The iPhone camera was always a usual and not interesting thing. It is ideal if used for taking not professional photos. From the point of view of a shooting in a complete automatic regime the iPhone camera is the best on the market, and, of course, the iPhone 6 supported this principle, too.
From the point of view of the technical characteristics the camera is last year’s one. Well, only autofocus starter to work better. Among the interesting things – video shooting 1080p@60fps, 720p@240fps.
Apple smartphones have one specific tradition – they are compared with the whole market, but it is wrong. It’s even a bigger mistake than comparing Windows 8 with Android.
Apple users live in the frames of an ecosystem and know nothing except it. And do not want to know! And from this point of view iPhone 6 is a great progress for those who wanted a smartphone with a large display. If you had already have iPhone 5S and you liked it, there is no reason to change it for iPhone 6.
