The unveiling of the latest Tecno model took place earlier this week at the Sheraton Hotel, Ikeja, Lagos. The event was attended by the officials from the Tecno head office, the Nigerian Tecno team, and renowned tech bloggers and publications.

1. Design and display
The Tecno Spark 2 is the newest addition to Tecno’s phablet lineup – it has a 6-inch HD+ display that has the resolution of 720 by 1440 pixels and is built into a compact 5.7-inch plastic body. These display features promise a very satisfying viewing experience.
The design of the Spark 2 can hardly be called groundbreaking – it’s the same elegant plastic body with soft touch and refined lines. The new device will be available in six popular colours, including Midnight Black, City Blue, Champagne Gold, and Bordeaux Red.
2. Performance
The Tecno Spark 2 shares many of its performance specs with its predecessor, the Tecno Spark K7 – namely, its quad-core 1.3 GHz processor and Mediatek MT6580 chipset. There will be two versions of the Spark 2 available – one with 1GB of RAM and one with 2GB of RAM. Both versions will have 16GB of storage that can be expanded to 32GB with a microSD card.
Perhaps, the most interesting performance upgrade of the Tecno Spark 2 is the partnership with Transsion to launch the Android Go system on the new smartphone. Android Go has been specifically designed to speed up the performance with 1GB of RAM or less. Android on the Tecno Spark 2 will not only run faster, but also optimize the data consumption.
3. Camera, batter, and other features
While some users were disappointed to find out that the Spark 2 is missing the 4G functionality, another important update was more than thrilling. With the latest phone, Tecno finally introduced the facial recognition feature, which maximizes the security of your new device.
The Tecno Spark 2 comes with two cameras, a 13MP rear camera and a 8MP camera for flawless selfies. Both cameras have been designed in a way that will help them capture perfect pictures even in low lighting settings.
The battery installed in the Spark 2 has the capacity of 3500mAh and promises more than 24 hours of talk time or 3 days of standby time. However, there is no fast charging feature, so you may have to go back to the old charging ways.
3. Pricing and availability
There is no definitive release date for the Tecno Spark 2, but it is expected to hit Nigerian stores in the next few weeks. The price for the new Tecno Spark is ₦36,200, or $100, for the 1GB version and ₦38,000, or $105, for the 2GB version.
