1. How the countries are selected
Transparency International does a lot of work internationally to bring corruption to light and prevent its spread around the world. The organization has over 100 national chapters in various countries in the world who not only help spread the corruption, but also gather data that is later used to determine the corruption rating of the country.

When creating the list of the most corrupt countries, Transparency International uses lots of data from various sources. One of the most important sources of data is people’s reports – if you witness corruption firsthand or know it is happening, you can always contact the local Transparency International office or use their website to report the suspicious activity.
2. 2020 list of the most corrupt countries
The 2020 list of the most corrupt countries was compiled using the data gathered in the previous 12 months. This year’s list contains a lot of familiar country names, but there are also a few surprises. In 2020, the list of 10 most corrupt states in the world looks like this:

So far, the distribution between continents has not been particularly equal: out of 10 most corrupt countries, 5 are located in South America, 2 in Africa, 2 in Asia, and 1 in Europe. A significant percentage of the people questioned for the report said they believe the amount and severity of corruption in most countries have increased over the past year, and things are further negatively affected by the COVID-19 pandemic.
