1. What has changed?
For years Twitter users have pleaded with the developers to expand the character limit for tweets. In late September 2017, the developers started offering a character limit that was twice as big as the old 140-character count. Now you can finally start tweeting in full sentences, without any contractions and without the need to divide your thoughts into several tweets.
However, there’s one catch: the new functionality is currently available only for a small part of Twitter users, and the others will need to wait until the official release sometime this autumn.
2. How to get 280 characters right now?
Thanks to a tiny tweak discovered by a savvy Twitter users, you can activate the 280-character limit within minutes. Here is what you need to do.
- Download and install the TamperMonkey extension for your Google Chrome.
- Open this script in your browser, click the Raw button, and finish the installation.
- That’s it – now you can create 280-character tweets without waiting for Twitter to officially unveil the function!
