The Global Passport Index is a ranking of countries based on how easy their passports make traveling for their citizens. The ranking takes into account the number of countries that allow citizens from a particular country a visa-free or visa-on-arrival entrance. Needless to say, the 2021 Passport Index list was heavily impacted by the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, but you can still see the global trends in the newest list.

2. Where did Nigeria place in 2021?

In the 2021 Passport Index according to Henley & Partners, Nigeria is 97th on the list out of 110 countries included in the ranking. With a Nigerian passport, you can visit 46 destinations without a visa or with a visa on arrival. There are several African countries placed higher on the list – for example, Kenya is 73rd, Lesotho is 69th, and South Africa is 54th.

At the same time, Nigeria placed higher than several other African countries on the Passport Index. For example, South Sudan is 99th, Congo is 100th, and Somalia is 106th. The country with the lowest ranking Afghanistan, whose passport gives its citizens a visa-free access to just 26 countries.
