You may have noticed the growing popularity of Kampala styles in Nigeria. Fashion Week shows in Uganda’s capital took place a couple of months ago, but it has defined a lot of trends of the upcoming season and opened new names in fashion.
KFW was founded in order to support young designers and represent one more side of African fashion to the global industry. Emerging and established designers introduced the latest Kampala styles that deserve the attention of the entire world. Let’s take a closer look at Kampala dress styles and trends of 2019.
Kampala trends
According to the hosts of the event, self-reflection is the central theme of the year and fashion week in particular. It is the time to completely understand personal strengths and come out of the dark and share a bit of African identity with the entire world through clothes.
The mission of the fashion nowadays to introduce newer and better things. Aesthetics and philosophy of responsible consumption are in the focus. Also, KFW reminded that despite its creativity fashion is first of all business, and it doesn’t have to follow the Western rules to be successful.
African prints
Every fashion event is a reminder of the significance of the continent’s identity. The native prints remain a highlight of the Kampala style during several years in a row. It means that our designers refuse to copy the Western trends and prefer to offer the West something unique.
Crotchet outfits
Several designers impressed with the burst of colors and sophisticated hooked designs. There is something warm and familiar about knitwear. This time, it was represented by good old capes and oversized sweaters, bright geometric patterns, and even costumes with rather avant-garde designs.
Simplicity itself
Both designers and sharp dressers prefer comfort and simplicity, even if it comes to cocktail dresses. The next season will feature easy breezy dresses that fall freely and provide absolute freedom of movement, clothes made of recycled fabrics, and many outfits to wear with flip-flops. Just enjoy the freedom!
Sophisticated accessories
While clothes designs strive for simplicity, accessories start to remind wearable art pieces. These are not “on demand” items meant to complement clothes. Accessories help to emphasize your identity and not the way a certain dress or blouse looks. In a way, they become more independent.
