1. How to do makeup

The makeup look you choose for the event depends on a lot of things: whether you are attending the wedding as the bride or as a guest, your personal preferences in makeup, and the way you want your makeup to match your outfit. Here is a universal tutorial perfect for every Nigerian lady.

  1. Cleanse and moisturize your face. Give your skin a good wash with some mild facial soap to get rid of any old makeup and grease, and then apply a light moisturizer to make your skin better prepared for putting on makeup.
  2. Start with your eyebrows. Choose an eyebrow pencil, powder, pomade, or liner that matches the color of your hair. Create an outline and fill in the eyebrows using short, light strokes. If you’re using a pencil or powder, slightly blend it in.
  3. Apply foundation. Put on some face primer first to smooth out the skin and make the pores and lines less visible. Then apply a coat of your favorite foundation with a brush or beauty blender.
  4. Use the concealer. Concealer can be used to further perfect the look of your skin and hide any imperfections that the foundation couldn’t fully camouflage. Apply concealer to standout blemishes and under-eye circles.
  5. Put on the eyeshadow, but first, apply some eyeshadow primer to help your eyeshadow makeup stay on longer. As for the eyeshadow itself, you can go as simple as applying one shade over your eyelids and blending it up to the crease, or as complex as creating an elaborate eyeshadow look using 3-5 shades – it all depends on your taste and skills.
  6. Finish your eye makeup by adding a line along your lashes using a pencil, gel, or liquid eyeliner. You can use the popular technique called tight lining, where you need to apply the liner between your lashes. Next, apply two coats of mascara or put on fake eyelashes for the most striking look.
  7. Do the lip makeup. To make your lips smoother and help your lipstick last longer, use a primer or lip balm first. Then, if you’re using a creamy or liquid lip product, outline your lips with a pencil lip liner. Finally, put on the main product: it can be a regular lipstick, a lip gloss, a lip tint, or a liquid matte lipstick, which gives you more coverage and stays on longer.
  8. Add some finishing touches: add a bit of highlighter to the cheekbones, cupid’s bow, just below your eyebrows, and in the inner corners of your eyes. Put on some blush on the apples of your cheeks, and if you want to go one step further, then contour your face with a bronzer. You’re done here and can move on to tying your gele! 2. How to tie gele

The next step in our guide on how to tie gele and makeup is tying the gele. There are so many different kinds of gele popular in Nigeria right now that the steps on tying the gele can be slightly different for each particular case.

However, regardless of the kind of gele you own, the procedure includes some mandatory steps. Here is the quickest tutorial on how to tie gele.

  1. First, take a look at your gele: if it’s a long one, you can fold it in two equal halves, so that tying it would be easier. If you have a shorter gele, leave it as it is.
  2. Hold the gele by the two ends at your forehead and pull both ends towards the back of your head.
  3. Take one end of the gele and wrap it all the way around your head until the loose end appears at the back of the head again.
  4. Repeat the previous step for the other end of the gele, so that you have two loose ends of the gele at the back of your head.
  5. Secure the ends of the gele at the back of your head. Make sure the gele isn’t too tight or loose; you can slightly pull it back for a more comfortable fit. That’s it – your gele is tied beautifully!
