1. Date and time
Grammy Awards are an annual event that usually takes place in mid to late winter. 2020 is no exception. This year’s ceremony will take place on Sunday, January 26 at 8:00 p.m. Eastern Time, which means that for Nigerians, the ceremony will start at 2:00 a.m. on Monday.

2. The host
This year, Grammy Awards will be once again hosted by Alicia Keys, who already hosted the ceremony last year and won viewers over with her warm presenting style and her efforts to unite people with music. Alicia Keys is only the fifth female Grammy host in history and the third woman to host the ceremony more than once. In addition to that, Alicia Keys has won 15 awards for her music throughout her career and is a friend of the institution.
3. The nominees
As always, the list of nominees of the 2020 Grammy Awards includes some of the best-known names in the music industry, as well as the hottest newcomers who surprised and delighted us over the year. The person with the biggest number of nominations this year is Lizzo, who stormed the charts and released one hit after another. Lizzo scored 8 nominations, so she is bound to win at least some of the awards.
Other big nominees include Lil Nas X, Lana Del Ray, Taylor Swift, Khalid, Ariana Grande, and Billie Eilish. Billie also became the youngest person to ever be nominated for all four major awards, including Best New Artist. After the nominees for this year’s Grammys were announced, fans noticed several major snubs, including Megan Thee Stallion, who had some huge success in 2019, and the Korean group BTS, whose millions of fans are very upset at their lack of nominations.
4. The performances
Every year, Grammy Awards are not just about giving out the actual awards, but also about watching the performances from the year’s nominees and other music stars. This year, we will have plenty of memorable music performances to expect. Starting with the performances from 2020’s biggest nominees, Lizzo and Billie Eilish, and all the way to Tyler, the Creator, Ariana Grande, Jonas Brothers, and Camila Cabello, the upcoming Grammy Awards are shaping up to be a great event for music.
5. Burna Boy at the Grammys 2020
To the delight of Nigerians, Burna Boy got nominated this year for Grammy Awards. Burna Boy, born under the name of Damini Ogulu, scored a nomination for the Best World Album with his hit record called African Giant. Burna Boy isn’t the only Nigerian nominated this year, as the duo of Don Eazi and Legendury Beatz were also nominated for the J Balvin & Bad Bunny album in the Best Latin Rock, Urban, or Alternative album.
Burna Boy joins the likes of Femi Kuti, Wizkid, Timaya, and Kah Lo, who have all been nominated for Grammy over the years. While the singer has rather high chances of winning the award, we will have to wait until Sunday to find out whether he will bring the Grammy home. In the meantime, some of the biggest names in the Nigerian music scene have sincerely congratulated Burna Boy with his huge achievement.
