2. TWA

When you are in the mood for a change or want to chop off your damaged hair and let new, healthy hairs grow out more efficiently, your best option is a TWA, or teeny weeny afro. A TWA will require you to trim your hear to keep the desired length and shape, but other than that, a teeny weeny afro is one of the most low-maintenance hairstyles you can get. Plus, it’s all-natural, perfect for any face shape, and gives you lots of room for experimenting with style.

QUARANTINE STYLE DIARY: Like most Black Women in quarantine, I wondered how I would manage caring for my nails and hair while salons and barbershops were closed. I made the decision to shave my head and return it to it’s natural state in 2011 to eliminate the cost of the HUNDREDS of dollars I was being charged monthly to relax, cut, and style my hair. 💸😩 From that point on, I have dedicated myself to leading a healthier lifestyle in ALL areas of my life. In essence, I’ve actually been preparing for an event like this for quite some time. Over the last month, I’ve had ample time to exercise my self-care CREATIVITY, since my nails and hair have been rapidly growing. I had to make the difficult decision to cut my fabulously long nails that I’d been growing out for almost a year, and remove the SNS powder protecting them 💅🏾😢. Turns out short nails aren’t so bad when they’re sharp and hard as adamantium CLAWS (unfollow me right damn now if you don’t know what the hell adamantium is! 😡😝). To my surprise, playing with temporary color in my hair has unlocked several NEW LEVELS of SLAY for me! 💛🧡💁🏾‍♀️❤️💜 Shopping on Amazon has been a LIFESAVER, as I’ve been able to purchase cheap products to play with until I feel comfortable enough to venture back to my barber’s chair. The brand of color I use is called #MOFAJANG and it’s less than $10 a container on Amazon 🏷️🤑 ! I am a LIVING TESTAMENT that it IS possible to look FABULOUS while you STAY HOME in quarantine (and save a TON of money while doing so! 💰😆 ) #TeamNatural #NaturalHair #BigChop #TWA #TeenyWeenyAfro #BlackGirlMagic #AlpharettaBarber #AtlantaBarber #ATLbarber #SandySpringsBarber #NaturalHair #NaturalHairStyles #Tapered #TaperedFro #TaperedAfro #ShortNaturalHair #DopeCutz #NaturallyShesDope #ShortNaturalHairStyles #ShortNaturalHairStyle #EdgesLaid #4cHairstyles #WashAndGo #Styling #barber #barbershop #barbers #Natural #EcoStylerGel #stylist

3. Cornrows

In a way, cornrows resemble braids, but with braids, the centre of attention of the hairstyle are the braids themselves, while with cornrows, the attention is mostly drawn to the pattern on the scalp. Cornrows can be both long and short, but they are both easily maintained and don’t put any excessive strain on your hair. However, while you can possibly do your own braids, you will probably need professional help with cornrows, since those intricate patterns of hair on the scalp require precision, a steady hand, and experience.

4. High bun updo

Whether you are wearing your hair natural or prefer to rock braids and other protective styles, you should definitely learn how to do a high bun updo. It’s one of the most popular ways to upgrade an old hairstyle and it has so many uses! You can wear a high bun when it’s hot outside and you don’t want any hair to touch your back, or when you are getting ready for a special event – an updo is a universally flattering and always appropriate hairstyle.

5. Dreadlocks

Dreadlocks are possibly one of the oldest hairstyles for natural hair known to man, but they haven’t lost a bit of their popularity in ages. The biggest benefit of dreadlocks is that once your hair is styled into them, you will need only a bare minimum of maintenance to keep your hair presentable and neat. Dreadlocks can be worn for a very long time with little to no changes, they can be short or long, and you can unleash your creative mood with dreadlocks by trying different colours and combinations.
