CES (Consumer Electronics Show) 2017, held in Las Vegas, is a home for innovations. No wonder, that company Faraday Future has decided to demonstrate its first serial model of electric cars exactly here. FF 91, electric car of premium class, have been called by many “the first great competitor of Tesla cars”, but did it live up to the expectations? Let’s look closer at the specs and capabilities, demonstrated by Faraday Future on the show. Be in trend with Jiji!
Technical characteristics of the examined vehicle are impressive: summed power of the electromotors is 1050 hp, acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h for 2.39 s, with summed capacity of accumulator of 130 000 W*h and more than 700 km of run on one charge.
Tesla Model X specifications, for comparison, are lower on all the parameters mentioned, with 760 hp motors, acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h for 2.5 s and more than 400 km of run on one charge. FF 91 is also stands out with its futuristic design and technological equipment.
It includes 10 front and back cameras, 12 ultrasound sensors, 13 radars of different range capabilities and high quality laser range-finder (lidar), that, contrary to most other cars, is situated not on the hood, but on top of the car. One other function, that differs this model from other electric cars, is a fast charge, which will be available on special stations with pick power of 200 kW (although right now there aren’t any stations with such capabilities in the world)
The presentation of the car was made via a live demo, which showed the car driving itself around a car park and parking in the empty space, and some pre-recorded footage. The presentation was met with a level of skepticism, based on last year’s CES, when Faraday Future was caught lying about its self-driving car and using remote control instead. Even more questions were raised after the fail of the self-parking function of the vehicle during the presentation. What made the situation even more awkward, the function was presented by the main investor of the company, Chinese billionaire Jia Yueting.
So, it remains to be seen if FF 91 will be a serious rival for Tesla. The price of the vehicle is unknown yet, but you can reserve the right to buy the car from the first consignment for a reimbursed deposit of $5000.
