1. The announcement
The premise of Big Brother Naija is simple: a certain number of young and attractive men and women, or housemates, move into a shared home and try to survive eliminations and other challenges until one is crowned the winner of BBN. However, the rare look at the interpersonal relationships of men and women who share a confined space for nearly three months has proven to be so thrilling that Big Brother Naija proved to be a huge success not only in the country, but also on the whole African continent.

The immense popularity of Big Brother Naija is what compelled the creators of the show to announce a new season even though it will likely prove more difficult to produce due to the pandemic. The news was delivered by the CEO of MultiChoice Nigeria John Ugbe. He said he was confident that the new season of BBN will become the biggest event in African television of 2020, and, given how many viewers each season attracts, we can easily see that happening.
2. The auditions
Every good reality show starts with auditions, and Big Brother Naija is no exception. To find the few lucky individuals who will get to share the spotlight in front of the 24/7 cameras, the production company is now holding auditions. However, given the coronavirus situation, the producers opted for an online audition process rather than a live one.

If you want to become the next BBN winner, you need to have a valid Nigerian passport and be at least 21 years of age by June 1, 2020. The first thing you need to do is record a two-minute video, where you have to specify why you deserve to become the Big Brother Naija housemate this year and tell anything you want the BBN officials to know about you.
When your video is ready, you need to visit the Big Brother Naija auditions page and fill in an extensive questionnaire about yourself. Then you need to upload the previously recorded video introduction and submit your application. The auditions are open from May 20th to May 30th, so you have a good five days to create your winning entry for BBN!
3. The details
Unfortunately, not many details about the fifth season of Big Brother Naija have been released yet, so we don’t know the theme or the name of the season. It is likely that the production team will decide on the theme once they see the range of contestants and their personalities.

MultiChoice Nigeria has not yet announced when the shooting of BBN will take place, but we can guess the show will start some time during the summer. This is going to be the second season of Big Brother Naija where the shooting takes place in Nigeria, as the previous seasons were shot in Johannesburg, South Africa, which means that even travel restrictions are still in place by the time the shooting starts, the contestants won’t have any issues with arriving at their Big Brother Naija home.
